About David Bjurstrom

A professional photographer for over twenty years, David brings his artistic skills to each of his photographs. (For his drawings that have been recognized widely as setting the standard in graphite pencil, click the link at right)

Always interested in the craft, he began serious photography in support of his artwork--using the images as the image/sketchbook resource for his drawings. In 1990, he joined the photography staff of the Harry & David and Jackson & Perkins mail order catalog companies as an assistant. Within two years, he had been recognized for his skill behind the camera, as well as in front, where he often acted as the art director or photo stylist, and was promoted to Senior Photographer, supervising all of the studio operations.

In 2000, David left the company to begin a freelance photography career that led to producing work for various other catalogs, editorial clients, businesses and non-profits as well as shooting several books, including his own effort, Photographing Your Garden (Sterling Publishing, NY, 2003). Over the next several years he gradually moved toward his primary love of creating his artwork, making that his full-time profession today, taking only the occasional photography job.

Recently, he has become more active in live performance photography, primarily theatrical performance, blending his love of the theatre with his love for photography.
